Dreaming of sleep

Another sleepless night
Not a wink in sight

An hour of reading
My eyes should be bending
Let me do that cleaning
Till everything is gleaning

Still no sign of dozing
Morrow the alarm will be snoozing

Worries grow bright
Chest gets tight
Heart races
Anxiety surfaces

Crying a year’s worth of tears
In one night full of fears

What if I can never sleep
Mind begins to leap
What if I mess up tomorrow
I’ll lose my job and have to borrow

Thoughts swirling in a loop
Like chickens in a coop

Time to take a step back
And cut myself some slack
Reduce reactions
Look for distractions

Breathe in
Breathe out

Tonight may be gone
But tomorrow is not foregone
Accept, don’t fight
I will be alright

Another sleepless night
But there will always be daylight.
